Benchtop Lathe
My team designed a benchtop compound lathe capable of precisely turning plastic, aluminum, and steel parts. My primary role was to model the impact of load-induced error motions, manufacturing errors, and assembly errors of its individual components on the overall turning repeatability and accuracy. Then, I used this model to derive the specifications for each component. My secondary role was manufacturing and evaluating the parts against the requirements.
This work was submitted as our final project for course 2.72 - Elements of Precision Machine Design.
