As part of my Master's Thesis, I designed and built an electrodialysis (ED) based desalination system to treat groundwater for drinking purposes. Previous attempts at such a device were too expensive. I modelled the full system, and applied numerical optimization to study the pareto-optimal design space and understand the primary barriers to decreasing cost. Low-cost designs were prototyped and tested on real groundwater to validate the design tool.

This work was presented at the International Desalination Association World Congress in 2017, and was awarded best paper in the "State of the Art Category".
